The second Ingenieur generation according to new numbering scheme (1971/72-1976)

Shortly after 1971 IWC introduced the new scheme for referencing their watches which is still the basis for the one currently in use. At its introduction, a certain range of numbers was reserved for each calibre. Thus the reference 866 AD with calibre 8541 became the reference 1808, while the reference 866 A with calibre 854 got the reference 1908. The gold Ingenieurs with gold bracelets disappeared from the catalogues, and no new numbers seem to have been allocated to them. The remaining models however were not changed, and for a few years, the old and new numbers were used in parallel.
